The Swift Launch Series - A Pair of Traditional 24' Mahogany Inboard Runabouts

The Swift Launches are a pair of boats based on the same 24′ hull form.

These launches are inspired by boats indigenous to the Muskoka Lakes Region of Ontario, Canada. These are drawn with traditional building methods in mind – batten seam planking on robust, sawn, white oak frames – but an alternative composite/cold molded method is in the works.

The use case requires accommodations for 4(+) and speeds of 35 knots. As drawn the boats displacement is 3100 lbs. As modelled, they feature custom hardware and cutwater –  in polished aluminium –  Heresy to those who favour chrome plated bronze, but I quite like the softer, understated appearance of the aluminium – A perq of creating a design to your own pleasure.

As the design evolves, some of the interesting challenges will be revealed – among them a unique modern powerplant choice.

The designs satisfy some creative urges – subject to my ongoing overthinking and analysis. And, they give me the opportunity to further practice and develop skill-sets in Rhino and Orca3D where I’m creating a material database for weight  studies.

If the design creates an opportunity for discussion about something else, that’s awesome. If not, it’s all good fun.
